From a health point of view: what is the recommended time to spend in a sauna? All sauna use that does not feel good, or causes unwanted effects afterwards is excessive. But for those who are used to going to the sauna frequently can easily do so as often as every day. In a study published by the University of Eastern Finland, the greatest health effects were observed when the sauna was used 4 to 7 times per week for approximately 20 minutes at a time.

If you are new to doing sauna sessions it is a good idea to start at 80 - 85 degrees and then slowly raise the bar during e.g. 2 - 3 sessions. If you at any time feel uncomfortable you should leave the sauna. Keep an eye on the thermometer to better adjust the heat and find the heat zone where you feel comfortable.

Please make sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after your sauna sessions. According to Harvard Medical School, the average person loses about 0.5 litre or 1 pint of fluid during a short sauna session. As a rule of thumb: you should consume about 2 litres of water in total: before, during and after your sauna session.
