Wood burner Oven?

In all our standard saunas we have included a wood burner oven. Our sauna oven is from Harvia - a well-known quality brand from Finland.
In case you prefer another brand please reach out and we will check your options.

Heating up a sauna with a wood burner oven takes approx. 30 - 45 minutes. Before heating up the sauna, open the ventilation system and empty and adjust the ash box. Keeping the ash box nearly fully open at the beginning allows the fire to burn more. Once the fire is burning steadily, you need to add wood approx. every 10 minutes. Feel free to close the ash box when the fire is burning steadily and the sauna is reaching a desirable temperature.

Dry wood is the best material for heating your wood burner oven. As a rule of thumb only use softwood from trees with leaves, ideally birch wood. No pine timber is recommended as it contains resin which will eventually get stuck in the chimney. The moisture of the wood has a significant impact on how clean the burning is as well as on the efficiency of the stove. We recommend that you start the fire with birch bark or newspapers. The thermal value of wood differs from one type of wood to another. For example, you must burn 15% less beech than birch to obtain the same amount of heat. If you burn large amounts of wood, which have a high thermal value, the life-span of the stove will shorten.

Please expect to use approx. 1,8 m3 for a minimum of 150 x ignitions / hours. In Denmark 1,8 m3 costs approx. 270 EUR. Please note, firewood without resin (so ideally wood from trees with leaves and no pine trees) is the best to use as resin over time will get stuck in the chimney. The firewood needs to be approx. 15 cm in diameter and 35-40 cm long.
